Job Summary

The Head of Public Sector, South Bank will provide strategic leadership.

Additionally, this role will guide public-sector banking growth across the South-South and Mid-West regions.

The role focuses on deposit mobilization, government relationship management, revenue optimization, credit and risk management, and expansion of Wema Bank’s public-sector business.

🏛️ Public Sector Business Development

Additionally, the successful candidate will be appointed.

  • Lead deposit growth and liquidity acquisition from state and local governments, ministries, agencies, parastatals, and public institutions.
  • Develop strategies to grow public-sector deposits by 50% within 6 months.
  • Drive onboarding of new public-sector clients and deepen existing relationships.
  • Identify opportunities across MDAs, local government councils, educational institutions, judicial and security institutions, water boards, transport agencies, and state-owned enterprises.
  • Develop relationships with all tiers of government.
  • Promote tailored solutions covering cash management, collections, payroll, trade services, project financing, and TSA-compliant systems.

🤝 Government & Stakeholder Engagement

Additionally, the role will also involve the following tasks.

  • Serving as a key liaison with state executives, commissioners, permanent secretaries, revenue boards, and institutional decision-makers.
  • Leading negotiations for state partnerships and collections mandates.
  • Supporting IGR optimization and digital revenue automation.
  • Representing the bank at government meetings, public-sector forums, and economic summits.

💰 Credit & Risk Management

Additionally, responsibilities include the following duties.

  • Supporting the assessment and structuring of public-sector-linked credit exposures.
  • Managing areas such as ISP, contract finance, salary-backed lending, and infrastructure financing.
  • Ensuring credit proposals align with the bank’s risk and regulatory frameworks.
  • Managing portfolio concentration and diversification.
  • Using early-warning indicators to proactively manage credit exposures.
