Ren San & Co. is hiring an Investment Manager in Victoria Island, Lagos, to provide investment research, analysis, due diligence, and advisory support to the Principal on an ad hoc basis. Key Responsibilities for This Investment Manager Job

Investment Research and Opportunity Identification

• Research and identify investment opportunities based on the Principal’s objectives, risk appetite, and financial priorities.
• Review opportunities across asset classes, including equities, fixed income, funds, real estate, and private businesses.
• Conduct market and industry research to assess trends, opportunities, and risks.
• Present viable opportunities to the Principal with clear analysis and recommendations.

Investment Analysis and Due Diligence

• Conduct financial and commercial analysis of proposed investments.

• Assess the financial health, profitability, sustainability, and growth potential of opportunities.
• Conduct or coordinate due diligence on companies, promoters, investment managers, funds, and properties.

• Work with the Lawyer and other advisers to complete legal and regulatory due diligence.

Investment Recommendations

• Prepare clear investment briefs and recommendations for the Principal.
• Present the potential return, risks, investment period, and liquidity considerations for each opportunity.
• Provide comparative analysis where several opportunities are being considered.
• Clearly distinguish between facts, assumptions, projections, and professional opinions.
• Recommend whether to pursue, investigate further, negotiate, or decline an opportunity.

Investment Monitoring

• Monitor the performance of the Principal’s existing investments.
• Track returns, maturity dates, distributions, capital calls, and other milestones.
• Review periodic reports from investment managers, fund managers, and companies.
• Identify underperformance, emerging risks, or material changes, and provide timely updates.

Financial and Commercial Risk Management

• Assess downside and risk exposure for proposed investments.
• Review investment structures for financial or commercial concerns.
• Consider liquidity, concentration, currency, counterparty, and market risks.
• Recommend safeguards or conditions before an investment is made.
• Escalate material concerns to the Principal promptly.

Documentation and Coordination

• Review term sheets, offer documents, subscription documents, and investment memoranda from a financial and commercial perspective.
• Coordinate with the Principal’s Lawyer, Accountant, Financial Adviser, and Investment Adviser where specialist input is needed.
• Keep an organised record of opportunities considered, investments approved, supporting documents, and monitoring information.
• Track key dates, obligations, returns, and reporting requirements.

Reporting to the Principal

• Provide concise, well-structured investment reports and updates.
• Prepare summaries showing the amount invested, expected returns, investment period, risks, and current status.
• Immediately communicate material changes, concerns, missed obligations, or significant developments.

Requirements for This Investment Manager Job

• A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, Investment Management, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrable experience in investment analysis, portfolio management, financial advisory, private equity, wealth management, corporate finance, or a related field.
• A strong understanding of financial markets and investment products.
• Experience conducting investment due diligence and financial analysis.

Skills & Competencies

Strong financial and investment analysis, research and due diligence, understanding of risk and return, ability to analyse financial statements and proposals, commercial judgement, attention to detail, report writing and presentation, ability to explain complex financial information clearly, integrity and discretion, negotiation and stakeholder management, and the ability to work independently and give objective recommendations. A strong understanding of Nigerian investment and financial markets is expected.

Nice to Have

• A professional qualification such as CFA, ACCA, ACA, or equivalent.
• Experience working with high-net-worth individuals, private investors, family offices, investment firms, or similar clients.
• International investment knowledge.

Confidentiality and Conflicts of Interest

The Investment Manager will have access to sensitive financial, investment, business, and personal information relating to the Principal. Strict confidentiality and discretion are mandatory. The Investment Manager must also act objectively and disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest relating to an investment opportunity, adviser, fund manager, company, or counterparty.
