In a dramatic reveal that has sent shockwaves through the education sector, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the official statistical breakdown of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) – and the numbers are nothing short of eye-opening.

Out of a total of 1,955,069 candidates who sat for the exam, here’s how the scores stacked up:

  • 320 and above: 4,756 candidates (0.24%)
  • 300 – 319: 7,658 candidates (0.39%)
Only 12,414 candidates (0.63%) scored 300 or higher.
  • 250 – 299: 73,441 (3.76%)
  • 200 – 249: 334,560 (17.11%)
  • 160 – 199: 983,187 (50.29%) – Half of all candidates landed here.
  • 140 – 159: 488,197 (24.97%)
  • 120 – 139: 57,419 (2.94%)
  • 100 – 119: 3,820 (0.20%)
  • Below 100: 2,031 (0.10%)

Underage Candidates

Over 40,000 underage candidates participated in the UTME, but only 467 (just 1.16%) showed what JAMB calls “exceptional ability.” Their results are under further scrutiny across three more evaluation stages.

Exam Malpractice and Absenteeism

  • 97 candidates were caught for confirmed exam misconduct.
  • 2,157 candidates are still under investigation for suspected malpractice.
  • 71,701 candidates didn’t show up for their exams.
  • Candidates affected by biometric verification issues are under review and may be rescheduled if cleared.

Still Waiting

Results for blind candidates and JEOG group members are still being processed.

A press conference will be held later this week to officially announce individual results and guide candidates on how to check them. For more information, Check the JAMB Official Website.
