Egbin Power Plc is one of the biggest additions to the electricity industry in Nigeria. Often seen as the biggest single-generating power station in Sub-Saharan Africa, it was built to meet the ever-rising demand for electricity in Lagos and its environs. Following the nation’s privatization exercise, Sahara, through its power division, Sahara Power Group and sundry affiliations, acquired the 1320 MW installed capacity Egbin Power Plant. We are working towards deploying a minimum of 5,000 MW of electricity generation over the next five years.

Job Description
The Category Lead will be responsible for managing the entire process of sourcing products and services crucial to our operations.
Responsibilities

Execute category management, including strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, and contract, performance, and risk management.

Lead the strategic sourcing management goals for the category and implement action items to achieve these goals.

Oversee the procurement of contracts, managing cost, schedule, and performance parameters, and develop contract specifications, work statements, and terms and conditions.

Create bid packages, conduct bidders’ conferences, evaluate proposals, negotiate subcontract provisions, select or recommend subcontractors, issue awards, and manage subcontracts.

Maintain the vendor database and report metrics to Supply Chain Management.
- Evaluate supplier core competencies and competitive positioning using industry cost methods.
- Analyze industry trends and evolving technology to identify supply base issues, minimize risk, protect supply continuity, and leverage emerging opportunities.
- Manage supplier relationships, perform root cause analysis and resolutions, and develop and monitor supplier improvement plans.
- Develop and implement domestic and international sourcing and supplier selection strategies.
- Facilitate and monitor procurement change initiatives within the category to enhance business performance.
- Analyze and calculate procurement costs and suggest methods to reduce expenditure.
- Ensure team members update tracking portals weekly to provide up-to-date information for informed management decisions.
- Manage the supply portfolio to ensure spending transparency.
- Estimate risks and apply risk-minimizing techniques, escalating risks for immediate mitigation when necessary.
- Establish a strong network and foster collaboration with customers, suppliers, key stakeholders, and team members.
- Demonstrate awareness, understanding, and application of Quality & HSE policies on assigned jobs.
- Understand and apply departmental/process objectives.
- Recognize your contribution to the effectiveness of the IMS and the benefits of improved performance.
- Be aware of the risks of not conforming to the EGBIN IMS requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Logistics, Business Administration, Transportation, or Engineering
- Postgraduate qualification or relevant certification is preferred
- Membership in a recognized chartered organization relevant to the field is preferred
- Minimum of five to seven (5-7) years of experience in strategic sourcing.
Additional Qualifications
Proficiency in sourcing, vendor management, and associated software.
- Experience working with contract manufacturing vendors.
- Knowledge of terminology related to supplier and vendor agreements.
- Understanding of market dynamics and sound business judgment.
- Ability to negotiate and maintain networking relationships.
- Strong judgment with the ability to make sound decisions.
- Attention to detail.
- Basic knowledge of regulatory norms regarding taxation, duties, and import policies.
- Time management skills.
- Strong negotiation and bargaining skills.
