Job Summary

  • An HSE Team Lead in an oil and gas company directs health, safety, security, and environmental policies to achieve zero-incident operations.
  • They manage risk assessments, regulatory compliance, emergency readiness, and contractor safety assurance across projects, while cultivating a proactive safety culture.
  • They directly supervise on-site HSE staff, oversee Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems, and lead incident investigations.

Core Responsibilities
HSE Management System (HSEMS):

  • Develop, implement, and maintain HSE management systems, ensuring compliance with local, national, and international environmental/safety regulations.

Risk Management & Control:

  • Identify hazards and manage risks (HAZID/HAZOP) during construction, drilling, or operational phases.

Site Supervision & Compliance:

  • Supervise HSE staff and monitor on-site activities to ensure adherence to safety procedures and environmental protection standards, including Waste Management.

Incident Investigation:

  • Lead investigation of workplace accidents, near-misses, and injuries to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

Training & Capability Building:

  • Organize safety training, inductions, toolbox talks, and emergency drills.
  • Performance Monitoring:Track HSE key performance indicators (KPIs) like TRIR and LTIF, providing analysis to senior management.

Contractor Management:

  • Ensure contractors adhere to company HSE standards and procedures.
  • Emergency Preparedness:Lead emergency response plans, ensuring personnel are trained to handle site incidents.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR).
  • Lost Time Injury Frequency (LTIF).
  • Number of safety trainings/drills conducted.
  • Percentage of audit findings closed.
  • Contractor compliance rating.
  • Rigzone+1.

Key Skills & Qualifications
Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Health & Safety, or relevant field.

Experience:

  • Significant experience (often 5–8+ years) in HSE management within the oil and gas sector.

Certifications:

  • Valid certification in safety management (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma), First Aid, Firefighting, or BOSIET (for offshore).

Competencies: 

  • Strong leadership, crisis management, technical knowledge of safety regulations, and proficiency in digital HSE platforms.
