Job Overview
The Assistant Manager, EHS – Base and District Operations will oversee the implementation of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs at the Port Harcourt base. The role focuses on ensuring safe transport of personnel, materials, and equipment across land, marine, and air, in compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement EHS policies and procedures for Port Harcourt operations.
- Conduct EHS awareness campaigns and promote a safety-first culture.
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Develop transport safety plans and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Oversee contractor selection and ensure adherence to EHS standards.
- Deliver training programs to personnel and contractors.
- Track and report on EHS performance metrics.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections.
- Manage regulatory relationships and ensure inspection readiness.
- Oversee environmental programs (waste, emissions, spill response).
- Lead HSE strategy implementation aligned with corporate objectives.
- Promote innovation and continuous improvement in EHS practices.
- Mentor EHS Officers and foster team development.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering (or related field).
- Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in base safety operations (preferably in oil and gas).
- Relevant certifications:
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (required)
- ISO 45001 & 14001 Lead Auditor (desirable)
- NEBOSH International Diploma (advantageous)
- Membership of a professional body (e.g. ISPON, NES, IOSH, COREN, MNSE, IIRSM).
- Strong understanding of OSHA, API, ISO standards, and Nigerian/international EHS regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.

- Strong project management skills, especially in EPCIC projects.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
- Skilled in risk assessment and contractor EHS management.
