Nigerian TikTok sensation Habeeb Hamzat, better known as Peller, is speaking out after facing major heat over his comments on the trending “30-day rant challenge” and a viral video by fellow influencer, Jarvis.
In a Thursday Instagram post, the 19-year-old tried to clear the air, saying his remarks were misunderstood and never meant to mock the challenge or silence Nigerians. “Nigeria, u misunderstanding me and Jarvis… please u all should try to understand. I am not the president, I am Peller,” he wrote, alongside a clarifying video.
In the clip, he explained that his earlier comments about ranting on TikTok were taken out of context. “The live video I made was screen recorded by someone… what I said about going to the market to rant was not meant the way people took it,” he said.
Facing criticism for allegedly being more concerned about his TikTok income than citizens’ struggles, Peller responded: “I’m not the only one earning from TikTok. Even people with no followers make money from this app.”
On Jarvis, he added that her remarks were also twisted. “When she said ‘us,’ she meant Nigerians have money—not what you people are thinking.”
Peller previously warned that mass ranting on TikTok could push the government to ban the platform, urging Nigerians to protest elsewhere. “Let’s protest. Let’s go outside. Let’s leave TikTok. Online something is just mumu mumu,” he said in a now-viral clip.
The “30-day rant challenge”—which gained momentum after NYSC member Ushie Uguamaye’s video calling President Tinubu a “terrible president”—has become a digital megaphone for Nigerians venting over inflation, economic hardship, and poor governance.
While some supported Peller’s caution, many accused him of selfishness. One user, @LADE, wrote: “Only someone who’s unemployed fears TikTok being banned. I’ve always liked you… but you’re going too far.”
Now, both Peller and Jarvis are trying to calm the storm, insisting their words were misunderstood—and that they stand with Nigerians speaking out.
