
Four people lost their lives in a terror attack on a Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) facility at the Kangiwa border in Kebbi State.
The victims included a local watchman and three contractors working at the site.
In a statement released on Sunday, NIS spokesperson Kenneth Udo confirmed the attack occurred on Friday evening at about 7:20 pm, causing extensive damage to the facility’s security infrastructure. He noted that no immigration officers were harmed during the incident.
“The service regrets to announce a recent attack by a suspected terrorist group on our facilities and contractors at the Kangiwa border in Kangiwa Local Government Area of Kebbi State at approximately 19:20 hours on Friday, January 10, 2025.
“The attack resulted in the death of four individuals, including a local watchman and three contractors, along with significant damage to our security infrastructure. Thankfully, no immigration officers were killed during the attack.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and are working closely with sister agencies to identify and bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice,” the statement read.
The NIS reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring border security and contributing to national safety despite the challenges posed by the attack.
