The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has introduced a transformative initiative, allowing students to retake their WASSCE exams as early as January and February 2025.
This shift from the traditional system, which required candidates to wait for the next private exam cycle, marks a significant step toward academic flexibility.
John Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, announced the new programme, called WASSCE PC1, during an appearance on JoyNews’ AM Show in Ghana on December 31. He highlighted it as a faster option for students to enhance their grades.
According to him, ““Students who access their results now and realise they need to resit one or two papers have until 8th January to register online through our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés. The exams will take place from 24th January to 15th February 2025.”
To support candidates’ preparations, WAEC will fast-track the release of chief examiners’ reports, offering detailed feedback on areas for improvement.
“These reports will provide detailed feedback on where students may have gone wrong and how they can better approach their studies and the examination process,” Kapi stated further.
The initiative is being widely promoted through banners, WAEC’s website, and the results checker platform to keep students and parents informed.
Even candidates with annulled results can participate in the WASSCE PC1 exams, as long as they have not been disqualified for malpractice.
WAEC expressed optimism that this initiative will help candidates quickly improve their grades and secure admission in the next academic cycle, avoiding a year-long gap in their studies.
