Description

The Plant/Factory Manager will lead the operation, safety, efficiency, and profitability of the ethanol manufacturing plant. The role ensures production targets are met while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, environmental compliance, and cost control. Hands-on ENA facility experience is required. Experience in a cassava-based ENA facility with integrated CO2 recovery is desirable, and previous Nigerian experience is an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day plant operations for continuous, safe, and efficient production of ENA and CO2
• Keep all units (power and steam, milling, fermentation, distillation, storage and dispensing) in top condition, aiming for near 100% plant availability
• Coordinate maintenance and safety across all operating units
• Supervise utilities, including boilers, power generation, cooling systems, water treatment, RO, and ETP
• Optimize steam, power, water, and fuel use to cut operating costs
• Manage the waste heat recovery system and biodigester to maximize energy efficiency and biogas supply
• Ensure compliance with energy efficiency, emission, and environmental standards
• Prepare and manage plant OPEX and CAPEX budgets
• Control raw material, chemical, utility, and maintenance costs
• Analyse plant KPIs and drive continuous improvement
• Coordinate with procurement on feedstock availability (molasses, fresh cassava, dry cassava chips)
• Oversee storage, handling, and inventory of raw materials and finished products
• Coordinate ENA dispatch so dispatched and produced quantities match
• Improve productivity, capacity utilization, OEE, and product consistency
• Enforce QA/QC, traceability, and regulatory compliance standards
• Develop and implement SOPs and operational controls aligned to KPIs
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports
• Present updates, risks, and improvement plans to senior management
• Support strategic planning and expansion initiatives

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering
• Master’s degree (MBA / M.Tech) is an added advantage
• 7–15 years’ experience in ENA, ethanol, distillery, sugar, or biofuel plants
• Experience in cassava-based (cassava to ENA) processing is an advantage
• Strong leadership and decision-making skills
• In-depth knowledge of ethanol and CO2 production processes
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Budgeting and cost-control expertise
• Strong understanding of HSE and regulatory compliance
• Effective communication and people management skills
