Research Assistant Job Summary (Remote)

The Sahara Centre is inviting applications for a Research Assistant to support active research projects through literature reviews, data collection, basic data cleaning, and research drafting.

This is a fully remote, fixed-term position lasting three or six months, depending on the selected project. The successful candidate will report to the Research Manager and work under the direct supervision of an assigned project lead.

Key Responsibilities for This Research Assistant Job

Research Support

  • Conduct literature reviews and background research as directed by the assigned project lead.
  • Support data collection for assigned research projects.

  • Be enrolled in PhD candidacy in a relevant field.
  • Strong candidates with a First Class or Second Class Upper Bachelor’s degree may also be considered.

Experience

  • Prior research experience gained through coursework, a thesis, or an internship at a development-focused organization is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated writing or research output showing analytical capability.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic knowledge of research methods and source evaluation.
  • Ability to follow instructions closely and complete assigned tasks on schedule.
  • Interest in indigenous knowledge, African development, and the Center’s core intellectual themes.
