Description

The client is seeking an experienced Manager, Data Science & AI to lead hands-on data science and AI initiatives across its programs. The role will focus on data engineering, predictive analytics, AI-enabled solutions, dashboards, data quality, and actionable insights to support programme and business decisions. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with analytical thinking, team leadership, and the ability to translate complex data into clear recommendations for non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities for This Manager, Data Science & AI Job

• Lead and contribute to data science and AI projects, including predictive analytics, AI-enabled health tools, and digital health dashboards.
• Design and oversee data pipelines, data models, integrations, and multi-source data structures.
• Conduct statistical and machine learning analyses, including regression, classification, clustering, and forecasting.
• Develop and review decision-focused dashboards using Power BI or Tableau.
• Establish data quality, validation, governance, and documentation standards across partner datasets.
• Manage and mentor data scientists and data engineers, reviewing technical outputs for quality and rigor.
• Work with programme teams to identify performance drivers, generate insights, and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
• Provide technical input into proposals, concept notes, partnerships, and AI/data-driven solutions.
• Collaborate with technology partners on data architecture, model development, and system integration.
• Present technical findings clearly to management, clients, funders, government stakeholders, and other non-technical audiences.
• Support responsible AI practices, including data governance, consent, ethical AI, data security, and validation of AI/LLM-assisted outputs.
• Ensure compliance with applicable data protection requirements, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023.

Requirements for This Manager, Data Science & AI Job

• A Bachelor’s Degree.
• 6 to 8 years’ experience in Data Science, Data Engineering, AI/ML Engineering, or Applied Analytics, with experience managing or mentoring technical teams.
• Advanced SQL, including complex joins, aggregations, window functions, and multi-source data analysis.
• Strong Python skills, particularly pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib/Plotly, scikit-learn, and statsmodels.
• Strong knowledge of machine learning and statistical analysis, including supervised/unsupervised learning and time-series forecasting.
• Proficiency in Power BI or Tableau, including DAX/calculated fields, plus strong Excel skills including Power Query and Power Pivot.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure or AWS cloud data platforms.
• Strong analytical and statistical reasoning, with the ability to independently interpret data, test hypotheses, and defend conclusions.
• Proven ability to communicate complex technical findings to non-technical and senior stakeholders.
• A postgraduate qualification in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field is an advantage.

Desirable Experience

• Experience with AI-enabled health tools, digital health, health systems data, RHIS/HMIS, or development programs.
• Knowledge of responsible AI, data governance, consent frameworks, or data protection.
• Experience with telecommunications/mobile network data ecosystems.
• Familiarity with AI/LLM tools for data and reporting workflows, with strong validation practices.
• Experience with Git/version control.
• Experience working in Nigeria or other emerging markets.
