NDLEA Cracks Cocaine Cartel, Arrests Lagos Influencer KC Luxury

Drug Enforcement Update

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has dismantled an international Cocaine Cartel.

Moreover, it allegedly used Nigeria as a transit hub.

The cartel moved illicit drugs to the United Kingdom, other parts of Europe, and Asia.

Influencer Arrested as Cartel’s Nigerian Arrowhead

The agency arrested Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known online as “KC Luxury,” identifying him as the alleged Nigerian arrowhead of the syndicate. Afolabi, who presented himself publicly as a luxury goods dealer and social media influencer, was picked up as he attempted to flee the country.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi confirmed the development in a statement issued Tuesday, noting that the agency’s Chairman and CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa (retd.), briefed journalists in Lagos on the operation.

How the Cocaine Bust Unfolded

Marwa described the operation as one of the agency’s most significant narcotics investigations in recent times. It led to the seizure of 184.50kg of cocaine, the largest cocaine seizure ever made through a courier company in Nigeria.

The operation began with the interception of a cocaine consignment concealed for export through a courier logistics channel in Lagos. This interception highlighted the route used for export. Law enforcement documented how the seizure disrupted criminal activity and drew attention to internal controls at the involved facilities.

Following the seizure, Marwa ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team to trace the network behind the shipment, from the couriers to the masterminds. Moreover, this mandate aimed to map the flow of the operation from street couriers to the sponsors, ensuring accountability across the chain.

According to Marwa, the cartel had hoped to earn as much as N39 billion from the consignment through its international distribution network.

Key details of the operation:

  • Cocaine seized: 184.50kg — the largest ever through a courier company in Nigeria
  • Estimated cartel earnings: N39 billion
  • Key suspects arrested: Lawal Mujab Kehinde (logistics firm staff) and Afolabi Kazeem Michael (“KC Luxury”)
  • Arrest location: Boarding gate, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos
  • Arrest date: 13 August 2026
  • Cash and valuables recovered: €7,750, £2,800, N100,000, plus expensive jewelry
  • Additional recovery: Exotic vehicles found at his Banana Island, Ikoyi apartment

Two Suspects Unmasked

Investigators found that Lawal Mujab Kehinde, a staff member of the logistics firm handling the cocaine, had a direct relationship with the cartel’s Nigerian coordinator, packaging and routing consignments to the UK, Europe, and Asia in exchange for cash payments.

Afolabi, the more prominent suspect, allegedly used his public image as a dealer in gold, jewelry, and luxury goods to mask a criminal enterprise moving cocaine along a route stretching from South America through Nigeria to the UK, Europe, and Asia. He was intercepted while attempting to board a business-class flight to Paris.

Part of a Wider Crackdown

Marwa linked the bust to other recent NDLEA successes, including the dismantling of a Switzerland-based cartel that allegedly laundered money through dark web marketplaces, and the takedown of two Nigerian-Mexican methamphetamine syndicates running clandestine labs in forests in Ogun and Oyo states.

He noted that traffickers had increasingly shifted from seaports and airports toward courier and logistics companies, seen as less scrutinized channels for moving narcotics across borders. The NDLEA boss stressed that the agency’s reach now extends into ports, forests, luxury apartments, and departure lounges alike.

Marwa also highlighted international cooperation behind the operation, pointing to near-simultaneous arrests of suspected cartel members in both Nigeria and the UK.
